2006/4/5 NineteenToday, I am officially 19 years old... I'm getting ooold... While we're on the topic of official: I have officially quit from my studies at QANTM college as of yesterday afternoon. It's been an alright-ish birthday so far. I've got $50 and the Decade DVD/CD produced by Planet Shakers. I dunno what else to tell you really so here, have some lyrics that I'm liking at the moment: As we humble ourselves Seek Your face Fall on our knees Turn from our ways You will hear our cry Wipe our sins away Come and heal our land we pray Planet Shakers - Send Me 2006/3/26 Smarty Tooths holiday achievementsAs many of you who
know me would already know, I had my 4 smarty tooths removed just over
a week ago. By "smarty tooths" I of course mean wisdom teeth but I
reckon smarty tooths sound better so there you go. Anyway, thanks to
all of you who prayed for me and/or wished me luck with it all. The
operation was completed successfully. I'm almost completely recovered
now. There is still some pain when chewing a lot at the back of my
mouth and my stomach's been playing up on me which is apparently caused
by the antibiotics I was taking but other than that, all is well! As
many of you also know, I took the whole week off from studying and
work. My apologies to those who didn't know all this but at this stage
I'm sure you all know now. So, what did I achieve during my week
off... First off when I got home I slept for about 5 hours. After this, I decided not to rest and to recover but to in fact start reformatting Garfield (my laptop). You'd think that would be easy and only take one night but noooo... Toshiba's recovery discs DO NOT WORK!!! Don't ask me what the point of them is if you can't use them because I haven't figure it out either. Please excuse the following rant: When I first received Garfield (Toshiba Tecra M4 Tablet PC) there was a program on it that could be used to burn recovery discs. Being the semi-backup-conscious person that I am, I burnt these discs and put them in a safe place in case I needed them one day or, as was the case, wanted to reformat. I'd finished backing up my data then proceeded to insert the first recovery disc and try to boot from it only to have my laptop read the disc for a moment then continue booting into Windows. Upon further inspection of the disc, I discovered that it is not actually a bootable disc. The disc does have a special copy of Norton Ghost for Toshiba on it though and a ghost image so I booted off another source into a DOS prompt and attempted to load ghost to restore the image problem is, this image is password protected!!! Toshiba don't have any mention of the password for it either. I googled around and found some stuff on it but nothing helpful so... I went about finding the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition setup source files located on the hard drive already and burnt them onto a CD along with the boot sector from a Windows XP Professional CD. After I'd done this, I attempted to boot from the CD but low and behold it doesn't want to boot... long story short, it eventually started booting from the CD for who knows what reason and Garfield is now reformatted and back in business. My second achievement wasn't really an achievement as such and wasn't my choice. The night I finished reformatting Garfield (that being the day after I got out of hospital... I gave up for the night and continued in the morning). I was talking to one of my friends (HI AGAIN AMY!!!) and she thought I should be off my computers and recovering. I didn't think so but somehow (I don't exactly remember how...) we came to the agreement that I'd stay off from 11pm that night (it was about 10:50pm at the time) until 10am on the day after next so long as she did. So, 11pm came shortly after and off I went. That night involved some kind of dream/nightmare about already having done my time and being allowed back on my computers only to wake up to find this was not so... Anyway, I slept in til 1pm (yeah yeah, I know, lucky little b...arstool) then spent the rest of the day watching TV, reading or listtening to music. Anyway, night went and morning came. I decided to make it 1 and a half days though and stayed off an extra hour to make it to 11am. I don't know why... I think I'm going insane... well, more insane than I already am. Somebody call the psycho-doctors and get me checked out! I kid! I kid! During the whole time I was off my computers, I wasn't allowed to tinker inside them either. As far as I remember, I didn't even touch any of my computers except to move my laptop out of the way for something... Overall, I feel proud of myself for having proven then I can go without computers. I'm' not saying I want to, but hey, if I need to, it's not going to kill me... much... Achievement number 3 came with the arrival of my brand SpankingFish! Not so! I LIE!!! well, kid... joke... you know what I mean! It came with the arrival of my brand spanking new Dell PowerEdge SC430 server. Once again, a long story short: All the old data and roles were successfully transferred from my old server to the new one and was completed at approximately 3am of the day I was allowed back on my computers. Achievements 4, 5 and 6 are all sort of related. With the new server in place, the old one was obviously not needed anymore. Afterall, I've only got 9 computers on the network including the server so there's no need for load balancing or any of that fancy smoke and mirrors stuff so, it was dismantled along with another computer on the network. Lots of spare parts were thrown in, some work was done and 2 computers came out of it: Lion and Leopard, hence numbers 4 and 5 of my achievements. Achievement 6 relates to Leopard which is now a computer that resides in my bedroom hooked up to a TV to be used as a media centre complete with remote control and the ability to record broadcast TV. All I can say is SWEET! Shaun: That was the second album I ever bought! Pete: It's 4 in the funkin morning! Shaun: It's Saturday! Pete: No it's not. It's funking Sunday and I've got to go to work in 4 funking hours cause every other funker in my funking departmen is funking ill!!! Now can you see why I'm so funking angry?? Ed: Funk yeah! -Shaun of the Dead: Extras - Funky Pete On that note, I need to sleep to as I'm going to church in the morning. W00T!!! I'll write more.... one day... hopefully this won't become a neglected piece of who knows what like so many other MSN spaces seem to... or maybe they all just have it coming... who knows...? who cares?? I don't! Thank you and goodnight! 2006/3/24 I pledge myself to your teachings...I pledge myself to your teachings. With these words Anakin Skywalker completed his turn to the dark side of The Force™. In a similar fashion, with this post I complete my turn to the dark side. Perhaps I should take a moment to step back and fill you in shortly but first, a short welcome: Welcome to The SpankingFish Den. This is obviously my MSN space. If you want to know why I'm using this, skp to the end and have a read of the paragraph towards the end. If you don't know who I am, allow me to introduce myself: My name is Seto. Well, I say my name is Seto but that's not my actual name it's just what everyone calls me. I'm ... well, read my profile that should tell you a bit more. If you would like to know more just ask! As for where did "Seto" come from? It's very simple: It's just my last name :P. Anyway... The reason for having called this "The SpankingFish Den" is because SpankingFish is my website (SpankingFish.com). Because of this, my home network is running on a domain called SpankingFish. All the computers on said network are named after members of the cat family (e.g. Tiger, Cheetah, Garfield, etc). I was attempting to think of a place where cats live and "Lion den" came to mind so den it is. It was 1am in the morning when I decided on the name so what do you expect? Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading all about... well, me? I know I wouldn't but I'm definitely having fun writing it! Read on if you want to know more details. There are many things that I despise in my life. A few of these things include: Micro$oft, Intel and MSN spaces. In recent times however, even with my despise of these things, I now have a Micro$oft managed network, An Intel powered laptop, An Intel powered server and as I said, an MSN space. So, Why the changes? The Micro$oft managed network was avoided at first because of cost issues but upon becoming a fulltime student, I was also granted access to the Micro$oft Developer Network or MSDN as part of my enrolment. This means that I can get most Micro$oft products for no charge so long as they are used for educational development purposes. Seeing as this is the primary purpose for my network, access to these products was taken advantage of. The Intel powered laptop was purchased because of Intel's Centrino technology. In short, it proved to be better than any of the AMD Turion options. The Intel powered server was purchased on impulse because of the Dell PowerEdge SC430 deal that came up. if you don't know about this, have a look around Overclockers Australia and you'll soon find out. I'll post about it in a later post anyway. The MSN space was done on impulse in much the same way the purchase of the Intel powered server was. For years I've been writing my websites and always preferred them over anything prebuilt. At present though, I lack the time to write websites but wouldn't mind a blog to fill the time so, here I am. I'd like to take this moment to point out that I still despise the concept of myspace or any prebuilt websites and am only using this out of pure laziness. Needless to say, I am and will be making good use of the manual HTML code editing function and cleaning up where I can. That's all for this post, more preliminary posts to come though. |
